Keloids, raised overgrowths of scar tissue that can develop after skin injury or surgery, can be effectively treated with steroid injections. In this treatment, corticosteroid medication is injected directly into the keloid to reduce its size, thickness, and redness. The injections work by suppressing inflammation and inhibiting the production of collagen, the protein responsible for scar formation. While steroid injections can help flatten and soften keloids, multiple sessions may be necessary for optimal results, and there’s a risk of recurrence after treatment cessation.
