Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. It causes stabbing pain near the heel, especially with the first steps in the morning or after long periods of rest. Steroid injections are sometimes used to alleviate severe pain and inflammation associated with plantar fasciitis. While they can provide temporary relief, they are typically not a long-term solution and should be used cautiously due to potential side effects like weakening of the plantar fascia or fat pad atrophy. Physical therapy, orthotic devices, and stretching exercises are often recommended as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
