Chronic migraine is a debilitating condition characterized by frequent and severe headaches lasting for 15 days or more per month, with migraine features on at least 8 of those days. Botox, a neurotoxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, has been approved by the FDA as a preventive treatment for chronic migraine. In this therapy, Botox is injected into specific muscles of the head and neck to block the release of certain neurotransmitters involved in migraine pain. While Botox injections for chronic migraine can provide significant relief for some patients, results may vary, and it may take several weeks to months to experience the full benefits.
